My curriculum web will focus on the Modernist period in American literature, exploring the historical roots of Modernism, the societal manifestation of Modernist thought, and the influence of Modernism on both literature and art. I intend to use this curriculum web in my 9th grade Honors-Humanities class, a class that is cross-curricular in design and that integrates art, philosophy, and history into its study of literature.  This curriculum web will combine a study of Modernism with an evaluation of both literature and art; as reading a painting is established as a required skill in the Nicolet curriculum for Honors-Humanities, and as Modernism is one of the eras I am asked to cover with my students, I find this curriculum web both appropriate and comprehensive.  The web will also serve as an introduction to the themes of Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, another required reading of the course.
